About Assassu

Hi!

My name is Gerda L Berthelsen, 32 years old and I come from Sisimiut, Greenland. I have a partner and together we have two children, Mille Ikiuna, 4 years old, Viggo Minik, 2 years old. I have a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Greenland.

I started Assassu (which means crafting) because I became more interested in it after I had children. I am especially interested in knitting, and have started making knitting patterns.

For me, crafting is much more, it nourishes the soul and is therapeutic. Crafting makes you be in the present, and not in the past or the future.

Making crafting easier and easily accessible is my core value. I publish knitting patterns in three languages, one of my values is also writing knitting patterns in Greenlandic. I have strived to be able to write a knitting pattern in Greenlandic, to give monolinguals an opportunity as well.
